The Earth Physic Institute and the Paul Langevin Institute  – Waves and Lights, are gathered within a same building, facing the Jardin des Plantes. Mainly constituted of offices and laboratories, a 150 seats auditorium, and a cafeteria complete the structure. Located at the corner of Rue Jussieu and Rue Cuvier, the project is based upon the preservation of historic buildings. The ground plane maintains a balance between a certain densification of the site and the creation of a landscaped garden, composed of a small square in a corner and of a linear and central garden. The massive building leads the natural light toward laboratories and plays with visual transparencies. The strong thermal inertia of the structure and the efficiency of its shell are the main energy optimisation tools.
