The “Mediterranean City” defines the coastline of the Euroméditerranée project within Marseille urban geography. The strength of the project lies in its capacity to organise and to improve the city-harbour relationship. In addition to bringing back together the city, the harbour and the sea, it demonstrates the interest of maintaining a cruise harbour within the city-centre as much for spacial situations than for economic exchange. The project focuses on the organisation of major public spaces (the Boulevard du Littoral (2,5km), the Pier J4, the Place de la Méditerranée…) as well as on the organisation of a mixed housing district – responding to qualitative criterion in matter of construction and environment. The plan spreads over 200 ha. The Mediterranean City’s Joint Development Zone foresees the construction of 500 000 square meters over 60 ha operational.
The Ateliers Lion Associés – Ilex – Kern team design 16 ha of urban organisations.
